About Me

Hi! I’m the 5, 6 & 11pm news anchor at WTAE. Prior to that, I co-anchored the morning news for two years and served as the weeknight  sports anchor for ten years here at WTAE. My career stops have taken me to Mobile. Hartford and now here. Every day, I’ll share with you some of my thoughts on the issues of the day from my unique vantage point here. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, always honest. Thanks for logging on!

  1. Hi Andrew! I wanted to comment on your one blog entry where a fellow-journalist said you had “no business being a news anchor.” I have no idea what this person’s idea of a news anchor is, but obviously, it’s not the qualities you possess. On Air, as well as in your blog, you come across as intelligent, well-spoken, thoughtful and compassionate. You have a warm and genuine smile that we all need to see! You have a great sense of humor and you don’t take yourself too seriously. I have watched WTAE news for 30 years and the reason is simple-the people. I’ve never had the pleasure to meet you or your co-workers, but I feel like all of you are my neighbors. Please don’t allow one negative opinion to shake your confidence or change how you deliver the story. When I tune in for the news, it’s like getting it from a well trusted friend. I appreciate that! Take care, Andrew and may God bless you!

  2. Hi Andrew,
I can’t imagine why anyone would think that you have no business being a news anchor. It’s obvious that you are very intelligent and well-read. Besides, you graduated from Ohio University (my late husband’s alma mater) where the very first journalism courses in the US were offered.

I really enjoy your commentary and love to watch all the fun you have interacting with your fellow anchors, etc. But you never seem to mention your family — are you married, and do you have children? I know you have a dog because you’ve mentioned it. Just curious!

Keep up the good work — it’s a real joy to see your smile each day and to listen to your lovely voice.

  3. Hi Andrew, I stumbled on this tonight and I was pleasantly surprised. I guess maybe I listen to too much national media these days, but I was thrilled to see someone in the news looking at what is going on today with a logical and open perspective instead of just glossing it over and assuming that everything will be fixed in no time. I look forward to reading your future posts.

  4. Hi Andrew!
I watch channel 4 all the time. I really liked you with Kelly in the morning. You two just made my mornings before going to work. Not saying anything is wrong with Mike — he’s good too.
Really like seeing Robin Roberts too.
Not sure if I should address my question to you, but can’t really find anywhere else on the station website to interact.
My question is — Why is there never anything mentioned during sports about the PITT women’s basketball team?? I think it’s just terrible that they are not recognized. I used to see Mike Clark at the games, but don’t think he’s been there this year. Coach Berinotti and her team have really come a long way and should get some recognition.
See what you can do about it! Or, direct me to someone I can ask.
    Thanks dude!

  5. Ellen –

Thanks for your e-mail, but I’m going to have stand up for my man demetrius. It’s not easy to do 3+ minutes off the cuff and he does pause and say “ah”. I don’t know too many people who don’t. I will pass on your critique, but I think that’s what makes him human … makes us all human … that we actually sound human.

  6. Andrew,

I was at the concert in Wilkinsburg. We can’t thank you enough for adding an additional “touch of class” to the evening.
Everyone I talked to after the program loved your delivery & absolutely loved how much you looked like you were enjoying yourself. No question, there was a “mutual admiration” going on between you & the PSO.

    Please come back any time!

  7. I am pleased that you are doing well. I knew you in Athens, Ohio and knew you would be a success. I have kept up at times with the changes your career has taken. Keep up the good work. It’s been a long time since Ohio University.

  8. Jeanne — How are you? I guess more to the point, where are you? I usually get back to Athens once a year to speak to students at a journalism conference at OU’s Scripps school. I thank you for the kind thoughts. I have been very lucky to meet many people who have guided me to this point in my life. Look forward to hearing about your life and times.

  9. Andrew, Could you please tell me why you don’t do the morning news with Kelly anymore? I loved watching you guys, together, you had a way of making people smile. So can you please tell me why? I miss you in the mornings, and enjoy still seeing you in the evenings.
Thank you in advance for answering my question
    Sincerely,

  10. Linda —

Thanks for the kind note. I enjoyed my time with Kelly as well. We had a lot of fun .. the entire morning crew … Let me try to say this without being self serving: I moved to the evenings in September because I was asked to do so. It was a promotion. The goal of everyone is this biz is to be on the prime evening newscasts and obviously everything went so well in the mornings, they felt I would do well in the evenings. I do miss the mornings — and you are not alone in expressing your feelings.

Sorry to mess up your daily routine, but I know that Mike and Kelly are a great team and should get you going in the mornings!

  11. Hi Andrew!!
Do you have any way to contact Robin Roberts?? We are having a Pink Tie Affair and was wondering if by some slim chance Robin would come. We tried e-mailing her at the ABC site, but no answer. It is a benefit to help breast cancer survivors in Pittsburgh that need assistance. I’m a one year survivor this week and they did help me out with my co-pays.
It is April 25th –I can send you more info if you need it.
It is a nice evening….dinner, entertainment, etc.
If you get her to come, you can come too !!! I know you have a pink tie in your closet !!

    Thanks,
    Bonnie
